This summer will see Metro froyo lovers not only scooping candy bits and fresh berries on their cool treats, but enjoying local talent while they’re at it.

The Gojis Talent Search, a new initiative by the Gojis franchise, is open for submissions until May 15, Kim KirkPatrick, personnel development for Gojis, said.

“We just wanted to be able to give starting talent a platform to perform,” KirkPatrick said. “A lot of our clientele are kids, teenagers, so we want to have that festive atmosphere.”

KirkPatrick said everything from the colours used at the three Metro stores and Shediac location’s decor to the concept behind the company is about having fun and being welcoming.

“We’re just bright green, bright orange; that’s happy, fun,” she said. “We love having people come to just relax and hang out for a while, we want to be a place people can stay, not grab their yogurt and go.”

Gojis, which officially opened its doors in the Metro area in late 2012, now has locations in Kelowna, B.C.; Charlottetown, Bedford, Halifax, Amherst, Miramichi, and a new Calgary store will be opening soon.

“We want our stores to be somewhere people can feel comfortable,” KirkPatrick said, adding that the Riverview location broadcast the Olympics in February.

“That location even has high school students coming by on their noon hour and we’re always happy to have them bring in their own lunch and hang out, enjoy, have a happy, fun place to be with their friends.”

It was that fun-filled atmosphere that prompted KirkPatrick to start the Gojis Talent Search.

“There’s lots of people around here that wouldn’t otherwise have a chance to get their name out or showcase their talent, so this is a good way to do that in their own hometown, bring it to their target market,” KirkPatrick said.

“We just like to give back to the community in all that we do, and this is one way that we can do that and serve customers.

Live music stemming from the talent search is expected to take place at Gojis locations on Friday evenings and weekends throughout the summer months.

Musicians of all ages are invited to submit audio or video clips to KirkPatrick by May 15 by emailing kim@gojisyogurt.com
